The car is parked:

Where you least expect it. So don't go down 3 flights of stairs with your 20 pounds of baby, 20 pounds of stuff, 2 whining kids, and then wander aimlessly around the neighborhood searching for it. By the time you find it, you'll be too angry to go wherever it is you're supposed to be going.
Maybe that doesn't sound like a big deal, but it makes me crazy.
Years ago, my husband and I would joke about doing this so that on the weekends, when we finally drove our car, we would remember where to find it. Now I'm not joking, but am doing it to help preserve a little bit of sanity. (I'll take what I can get).
I've made a little laminated magnet with a picture of our very own car and placed it conveniently upon a wipe-off board where we can document the location of our parked car, be it right in front of our eyes...

several blocks away...

or in the dreaded "No parking from 8am to 4pm" zone which, if we were to forget, would cost us another (yes, it's happened before) $60.

Here's to being slightly more organized!

Your's is MUCH cuter than mine. My own system is a spot on my bulletin board at work with a card -- one side says "front lot" other side says "library lot" and occasionally I have to use a post-it to describe some random place I parked my car at the university.

I thought this story was going to end with you saying that the car had been stolen.

Glad that isn't the case.

SUCH a smart idea!

Perfect solution & a clever way to do it. Maybe no more school parking lot tickets, as well as a bit more sanity.

Thats not a bad idea....we sometimes can't find our car when we come out of the store. Very annoying! when we get out of the car...most times we look now and say aloud [if we remember]...row 6 ..lines up with the store trash can ...or some such thing.

Brilliant!
Now if only there was a solution for when I'm parked in a big lot and the grocery clerk is following me pushing the cart with a tired two year old sitting in it :}

We do the same thing! Ours works a little differently, though. We printed out a Google map of our neighborhood, and we have little magnet pointer that we use to point out the location on the map where the car is parked. It's just an old freebie advertising magnet cut into a pointer shape. Yours is much cuter!

From someone who had to move her car every Tuesday and Thursday for street cleaning in Brooklyn.. I think you're a genius.

Ahhh, I don't miss those days! In college at Ohio State I had to park all over the place (and once got towed for unknowingly parking illegally and had to pay over a hundred dollars to get my car back). Life is good in the suburbs with my attached garage!!! (Though I wish I had my parents' attached four car garage).
