Blast from the past
Today I pulled out some of our old (early 1980s) Strawberry Shortcake dolls for the kids to play with. The smell of the accessories alone took me back years. My kids don't seem as impressed as I was at one point in time, but then, they're still oblivious to much of popular culture, thank goodness. They still think Spongebob Squarepants is a dressed up piece of cheese.

I loved my Raspberry Tart and my Apricot dolls.
I'm jealous!!
Why didn't we do this while I was still there? Arg. I want to smell, too.
I wish I still had mine! They smell so yummy!
Amy,
I know. As soon as I opened the box, I regretted not doing it sooner!
Oh man, such a trip down memory lane!
Just looking at them brings back the smell! And BTW, they look totally different from Strawberry Shortcakes produced today. Darn that modernization.
Oh my goodness, I had these, too! I think my mom still has them in a box somewhere. Ahhhh, memory lane!
I bought those for my kids, the new ones I buy for my grandkids look to "mature".
I am positively drooling!! My parents got rid of my entire collection when I went to college. Not sure if I'll ever get over it! :)
Thanks for the picture of them!
oh my gawsh- I have a collection of some of these as well as the newer edition of SS & Friends. I loved these dolls- still do! I'll take a pic and do a show n tell! My favorite was the tree house toy that the tree part "popped up". It's hard to find, but someday I will find it. I'm sure ebay has it, but I'm enjoying my collection! I'm a kid at heart!! I love the scents too! Hugs!
Oh, I had those too! My sister and I just got out our Mandy and Jenny dolls. Remember those?
AwtemNymf,
We had the snail cart and the sunflower carousel. Still have the carousel!
Katy,
We had Becky and Jenny!
I used to walk around with little Apple Dumpling hanging out of my mouth by her foot. I just loved her and her turtle. Katy, I had Mandy and Jenny too! My Mom used to sew them clothes all the time. One year she made them sleeping bags so that we could all have a sleepover. I am still waiting to give them to my little one...
i have all mine still too! pulled them out as well about a yr ago, and right back they went. it didnt go as i had planned either, LOL. although i do have 3 boys. (i was a SS girl, not barbie)
I LOVED my strawberry shortcake dolls. I wish I still had my BIGGER ones. They smelled so good when you pressed the tummy. Hmm....I may have to look on ebay for one.
I just gave my daughter hers a few months ago - she is 33!
The smell is wonderful!

i have my secret SS stash also. Anytime a girl comes over to play with the boys I pull them out. Takes me back. Wish I still had the bigger ones that when you squeeze their stomachs they blew out sweet smelling air.
Linda and Gretchen,
I had one of the bigger squeeze toys, too. Angel cake or something. That's definitely one of those scents you could take a whiff of while blindfolded and know exactly what it was. Depite last smelling it 20 years ago.
Just seeing these takes me back years too and I can smell the smell.
Oh, just precious. How I miss those cuties...I can smell them from here! I'm sooo jealous you've got 'em, too!
Is he not cheese? He looks like cheese to me! When my little girl sees anything with him on it in the store she says, "Look, Mama, here's that monster you don't like the look of." :) I gave my Lemon Meringue, Apple Dumpling and Blueberry Buckle dolls to my daughter not too long ago, too. I was astonished that they still smell! Kind of creepy that they do, but totally essential to the memory!
Oh how I remember the strawberry patch kids - and yes that smell forever engrained in my memory. Mine never made it through the years. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Oh - I made those hotdog spaghetti thingy again last night - my kids love it - they get tired of me just cutting them to look like octopuses. Thanks for helping me be more creative.

Why??? WHY didn't I keep my stuff like that from when I was a kid. Maybe because my little sister liked to try to eat these dolls because they smelled good. They'd be chewed up wrecks if I still had them, I suppose.
Oh wow, does this take me back! My daughter is just discovering SS, but the new dolls just aren't the same!
I'm late posting here... (just had baby #3 3 weeks ago and it's taken me a while to get back in the swing of things...), but my dd got a Cabbage Patch Kid for Cmas this year and the smell of it did the same thing to me... sent me back to being 6 all over again!
Wow - I haven't seen these for years, looking at that photo really brings back memories. You managed to keep your dolls nice - ours ended up with broken legs and accessories missing...
